Welcome to Sri Lanka! Today we toured Kelaniya, the Buddhist Temple built where the faithful believe Buddha came on his third visit to Sri Lanka.

Believers walk around the image of Buddha which is in the sacred fig tree. They carry water and sprinkle the roots to keep the tree alive.

Sinhalese is the official language of Sri Lanka. Our guide said it evolved into its curly, beautiful form because originally palm leaves where used to write on. Curvy lines were easier than straight.

Inside the Temple are carvings and frescoes and three important images of Buddha.

The Stupa no longer holds a relic of Buddha, but it is still an important symbol.
